Darren studied printmaking at Southern Cross University, graduating in 1992. In 1993, he went on to complete an Honour’s year at Griffith University, Queensland College of Art, receiving the Trevor Lyons Memorial Prize. Being awarded a postgraduate scholarship with Southern Cross University, Darren completed a Master of Arts by Research in 1997. This work explored the familiar landscapes of childhood, family and the everyday. Darren’s recent arts practice has been concerned with investigations into his own identity.
His work has been included in significant survey shows in Europe, Asia and Australia.
Darren has work in numerous national and international collections including National Gallery of Australia, Queensland Art Gallery, Art Gallery of South Australia, Print Council Of Australia, Artbank, and A.M.A.C. Chamalieres – France.
Darren currently teaches Printmaking and Drawing at Southern Cross University, Lismore and is the integral part of msbrownsPRESS and the print access studio running & set up at Lismore Art Space. He is a skilled master printer and is available to produce limited edition prints of a high quality and provides one on one tutoring in printmaking techniques through msbrownsPRESS.
