Beginners Sign Writing with Pocket Design

Bit excited! In a little over a week we’re looking forward to welcoming Brett Piva from Pocket Design, Newcastle to the studios. Brett is making a stop in the Northern Rivers to present his incredibly popular Beginners Sign Writing workshop at the Lismore Art Space!

Brett has been practicing Design, Typography, Lettering, Creative Arts and Traditional methods of Signwriting from the age of 15. Completing his Traditional Signwriting apprenticeship in 2000, Brett then continued his design persuits in studying many design genres including Graphic Design, Web Design, Digital Media, Animation and Illustration.

For several years Brett continued his career being contracted by many leading advertising agencies and design studios in London England and Sydney Australia working on campaigns for brands such as Coca Cola, Cadbury, Virgin Mobile, Disney, Kodak and Subaru to name a few. Brett’s unique style and design difference gained him a strong reputation both locally and abroad.

The class is broken into three parts. The first, you’ll learn and practice pressure tests with a brush and apply this to the six basic strokes of hand lettering. As you become more comfortable with the brush you’ll learn how to paint letters in a Gothic (Block) style alphabet at a comfortable size for beginners.

The main instruction throughout the day is strongly focused around one word. Practice. All great artists and craftsmen continually practice their craft. With the right amount of practice, you’ll be ready to continue creating work that not only follows the correct methods and guidelines, it will look great too.

The Beginners Sign Painting Workshops are designed to be an enjoyable day for any level of experience. You’ll receive all necessary materials to complete the workshop tasks and will take home your very own brushes and Mahl Stick to keep you practicing. Practice, Practice, Practice.
